Kia ora, I’m Monica.

I write mostly about nature and people, from my home in Raglan on New Zealand’s wild west coast.

I’m passionate about the ways that great storytelling can bridge worlds and make good change.

After a diverse decade of work in international and community development, I’ve put down roots in Raglan and honed my skills in writing, editing, and commuications.

I write on environmental and social issues to a range of international publications, including Biographic, Mongabay, Hakai, and Atlas Obscura. I also help research institutes such as the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), and the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) to communicate their work to wider audiences through compelling storytelling and incisive editing.

I have a Masters in Science (Distinction) in International Development from Victoria University of Wellington, and am a Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leader and Winston Churchill Memorial Trust fellow.
